Filk Discography Wiki
Filk Discography Wiki

This page is a work in progress!

Personal information[]

Since the Filk discography wiki presents information about real people in a public way, great care should be taken with personal information. In particular, sensitive personal data should only be included if known from reliable and public sources, preferably a public source representing the person themselves (e.g. their web site or the liner notes of an album they published), and even then only after careful consideration.

Names[]

Pages are generally to be named using the most recent public name for the person or group. Thus "Katy Dröge-Macdonald" rather than "Katy Dröge". If a filker is known under pseudonym, that is likewise to be used.

Names that appear in published works should be included verbatim, as they appear when the work was published. The link should still go to the current name, as used here. This can be accomplished using the following wikitext syntax: [[current name|old name]].

When needed, a redirect may be included to point an old name to a new name. However, the redirect should not be used as a link target! It is there to facilitate internal searching in the wiki. Redirects should be used sparingly, when there is little connection between the name of the prospective redirect and the page name. A case of a clearly justified redirect is from Rhiannon's Lark to Alyssa Yeager. There is less need for a redirect from Katy Dröge to Katy Dröge-Macdonald, since writing "Katy Dröge" in the search field will bring up the proper page.

Disambiguations should be done wikipedia-style using (…) after the name. If an artist and an album share a name, then the album should receive the disambiguation suffix (album), since the artist is more likely to be the target of links.

Links[]

Links should be created on first mention of a filker on a page and in infoboxes. Links should not be put in section headers since they become unusable in mobile view.

Templates[]

The infoboxes that appear in the upper right corner of each page should be used. Templates that insert them can be found here:

It is also possible to insert these templates directly from the source editor, through the “Preload template” menu below the edit window.

There are also templates for listings of cons, both con series and past cons:

Those are currently only used on one page each.

Templates for tracks and tracklists are under development. The same applies to templates for songbooks.

Images[]

Give any uploaded image a descriptive name. Album covers should be named name of album cover.jpg (presuming it is a JPEG file). If there are different cover art for a tape, CD, or LP, then use "tape cover", "CD cover", and "LP cover".

Cover art and J-cards can be handled as fair use. Upload them in as good a quality as possible, and include a copyright notice (usually {{fairuse}} for cover art). Set the category as "Cover art" or "J-card". The description should, if possible, give the name of the band and album, and the name of the primary artist or designer.

Photographs of filkers can generally not be covered under fair use. Official photographs meant for media use can however be used. Uploaded photographs should get the category "Photographs". The description should include the where the photo was taken and the photographer. The image should also get a valid copright notice. Preference should be given to high-quality pictures in a performing setting.

We have blanket permission for the following photographers:

Maintenance[]

If a page is lacking information, please mark it with a {{Stub}}. The template can preferably be placed at the end of the page; it need not be placed at the top.

Categories[]

There are lots of categories present, but many are cruft. Generally speaking, only the categories linked into the category tree should be used.
