Hi guys - I apparently missed the discussion that preceded the conclusion to put warnings up? While I think they are a good thing to have, I do not quite think they should be as harsh and prominent as they are. For our album I assume it is the word "gypsy" - unfortunately, the song is older than any discussion about it. If it were mine or I'd still perform it, I'd likely rename it, but the album is what it is. I think if this is done, then a TON of the older stuff needs some sort of warning. How do you decide which album gets this (rather ugly) stamp?

I've added templatedata code to the documentation for the album infobox. It will now be easier to edit the album infoboxes using the visual editor. Let me know if you find any issues or have other ideas for improvements!

Just reverted an anonymous contribution that included the contents of albums directly on the page documenting the con where they were recorded.

While it's great to add more information and contribute to the wiki, albums should be documented on their album pages, one page per album. Collecting many albums with tracklists on artist or convention pages makes pages balloon and turns maintenance into a nightmare for little gain.

The Filker infobox template now has a field for Twitch channels, named simply "twitch". It is used in the same way as other link templates.

I've updated the album infobox template (most easily found in the Style Guide; Community > About the Filkwiki > Style Guide) to include a field for catalog numbers, with the name "catnumber".

We have standards set up for how to list individual filkers and named filk groups. But it's less clear what to do when an album is recorded by a collaboration without a name.

For some examples:

• Eric and Jen Distad perform together as The Faithful Sidekicks. Clearly it is right that “The Faithful Sidekicks” gets its own article.

• Bill Sutton and Brenda Sutton also perform together, but their collaboration doesn't have a name. Should “Bill & Brenda Sutton” get its own article?

• Same goes for the Bohnhoffs. Should “Jeff & Maya Bohnhoff” get its own article?

• At least two albums have been created by the unnamed collaboration of Leslie Fish and Heather Alexander. They do not perform together anymore and recently got into an argument when Leslie more-or-less deadnamed Alec. Should “Leslie Fish & Heather Alexander” get its own article?

• Many albums have been created by one-off unnamed collaborations, like Larry Warner and Duane Elms (St Elmo's Fire), Juanita Coulson and Michael Longcor (What's a Hoosier?), Julia Ecklar and Anne Prather (Space Heroes & Other Fools), and so on. Do those collaborations get their own articles?

There's no obvious answer, as far as I can tell. Some possible solutions might include:

1. All unnamed collaborations that have released at least one album get their own articles.

2. All unnamed collaborations that have released multiple albums get their own articles.

3. No unnamed collaborations get their own articles. The albums are double-listed on the collaborators' pages. That is to say, all the Bohnhoffs' albums would be listed on Jeff's discography under “With Maya Bohnhoff” and on Maya's discography under “With Jeff Bohnhoff.”

What do others think?

I've run into a problem. I added two CDs by the group "Tri-Destiny" to the listing here. The first CD is simply entitled "Tri-Destiny." How do I separate the CD from the group for the listings? Unfortunately, the way it is now, the listing for "Tri-Destiny" goes to the CD only, not the group (since I've not put up anything for the group). (Or, of course, a knowledgeable person can fix this.) Tri-Destiny's second CD is entitled "Dragon Wine."

Our dear hosting company is in the process of rolling out a new site-wide skin for all their wikis. I've worked and read up a little on it, but my own graphical instincts tends towards the functional and spartan.

I've reached out to Matt Leger for some help, but would also like to hear what the rest of you here think, and how this wiki best can represent the filk community and ethos.

Some basic questions: Any fitting colour schemes? Should we do light mode, dark mode, or both? Serif or sans serif font?

I think we should settle on a rule for articles about conventions. Are we going to have articles for individual cons, or for the conventions as a whole? As I see it, having one article about OVFF (for example)—perhaps with sections for individual cons—is clearly within the purview of this wiki. But having thirty-some different articles about all of the individual OVFFs might very well stray into duplicating Fancyclopedia content.

I'm not really sure what the “Affiliations” field in the filker infobox is supposed to mean. I've seen it used to list the bands the person is in, or the region of the country they're from, or maybe a club they're in. Perhaps we should consider revising this part of the infobox to be clearer?

I've written out a quickie style guide. It is linked via the front page and the main menu system.

Hopefully it will make it easier to get the templates to paste into pages now.

Otherwise, it's mostly stuff that we have already talked about or are practising, but it is good to have a handy list ready.

The templates used here are not necessarily that complex, but since they are used all over the wiki, I'd prefer to be careful with them.

So if you want additional fields in a template, please request it here rather than do the edit directly.

Right now, the category system here is rather simple, and should give a hint on what type of content (and infobox) there will be on the page.

• [[:Category:Filk Albums|]] - used for albums

• [[:Category:Filk Artists|]] - used for individual artists

• [[:Category:Filk Bands|]] - used for bands

• [[:Category:Filk Cons|]] - used for pages about filk cons

• [[:Category:Filk Label]] - used for filk publishers and studios

• [[:Category:Practice of filking|]] - grab bag about doing filk

We also have geographical/linguistic categories, like [[:Category:Germany|]] and [[:Category:Sweden|]]. These can be used on any type of page. I expect we will get some more such categories later.

There are also some pure maintenance categories, like [[:Category:Templates]], [[:Category:Pages without artwork]], or [[:Category:Pages without infobox]].

Feel free to propose any other categories as might be needed!

I've been mulling on guidelines to use for names for people here, naming biographical pages, and in discographies and there are several interlocking principles.

(a) Follow the format as given on records. The advantage is ease of entry and that it will match the primary source (ie. the record). Thus Kerstin Dröge for some entries and Katy Dröge-Macdonald for some.

(b) Follow the most recent name. Thus Alexander James Adams rather than Heather Alexander.

(c) Use the name most applicable to filking. Thus Jane Robinson rather than James Robinson.

What I think we should do is to use principle (a) on record pages (with the exception of obvious errors), and use redirects to point to the applicable filker page. This has the advantage of creating additional search targets in the interwiki search.

For naming the biographical pages, I think we should go for primarily (b), but be aware of (c) when applicable. And still remember the overall kindness rule.
